Space-Saving Tips

  • Stand sofas upright on their ends if the arms are flat and sturdy
  • Store bed frames vertically to use height instead of floor space
  • Take large pieces such as dining tables apart
  • Fill drawers and wardrobes with small items and soft goods

How to Prepare Furniture for Storage

Good preparation keeps your furniture in excellent condition, whether it stays with us for weeks or for years.

Step 1: Clean Everything Thoroughly

  • Wipe all surfaces with a suitable cleaner
  • Vacuum upholstered pieces thoroughly
  • Make sure everything is completely dry before storing it, as damp leads to mould
  • Remove and wash any removable covers

Step 2: Look After Wooden Furniture

For long term storage, treat wooden furniture with wood oil or polish:
  • Test whether the wood needs treating by sprinkling a few drops of water on it
  • If the water beads on the surface, the wood is fine
  • If the water soaks in, apply a little wood oil
  • This keeps the wood nourished and helps prevent cracking in dry conditions

Step 3: Take Large Items Apart

  • Dismantle beds, dining tables and desks where possible
  • Keep all screws and fittings in clearly labelled bags
  • Tape each bag to its furniture piece or put it in a marked box
  • Take photos of how everything fits together to make rebuilding easy

Step 4: Protect Against Scratches and Dust

  • Wrap furniture in moving blankets, towels or fabric sheets
  • Avoid sealing items in plastic wrap, because it traps moisture
  • Use breathable materials only
  • Pad the corners and edges of wooden pieces

Step 5: Organise Your Unit

  • Lay blankets or a dust sheet on the floor to protect your furniture
  • Put the items you will need first nearest the door
  • Use vertical space by standing beds and sofas on their ends
  • Keep cushions and seat pads in labelled boxes
  • Create an inventory of everything you store

How Much Does Furniture Storage Cost in Dubai?

Several factors affect the price of storing your furniture:

What Affects the Price

  • Unit size: larger units cost more, so choose the smallest size that fits your furniture
  • Location: prices can vary between our Dubai locations
  • Contract length: a Fixed 12-month contract comes with a guaranteed rate
  • Features: options such as climate control, where available, add to the cost but protect valuable furniture

How to Save Money on Furniture Storage

  • Choose a longer contract for a better rate
  • Take large items apart so they need less space
  • Stand sofas and beds on their ends to fit a smaller unit
  • Only store what you truly need
Request a quote for your furniture, or read about our contract options.

Can You Store Furniture in a Garage or Storeroom in Dubai?

Garages, storerooms and balconies can seem convenient, but they are rarely ideal for furniture:

Problems With Home Storage Spaces

  • Heat and temperature swings cause wood to expand, contract, warp and crack
  • Humidity and damp lead to mould on upholstery and mattresses
  • Pests can damage fabric and wood
  • Limited security makes theft easier

If You Must Use a Garage

  • Raise furniture off the floor using pallets
  • Cover it loosely with fabric, not plastic
  • Make sure every item is completely dry first

Why Self Storage Is Better

  • Indoor units protect furniture from direct sun, dust and the worst of Dubai’s heat
  • Secure premises with individual locks
  • Staff on site during opening hours
  • Pest control measures
  • Ask us about climate-controlled options for valuable pieces

Is Furniture Safe in Self Storage?

Your furniture is well protected at Ideal Home Storage Dubai.

Security Measures

  • CCTV monitoring of the facility
  • Controlled entry to the building
  • Individual padlocked units, with you as the only key holder
  • Fire safety and pest prevention measures
  • Staff on site during opening hours

Access Your Furniture Whenever You Need It

  • Visit your unit during our access hours as often as you like
  • You are the only person with access to your unit, unless you name someone else
  • Trolleys are available to help you move items easily
  • No appointment needed
Unlike an outdoor container or a lock-up, our indoor units shield your furniture from the weather, extreme temperatures and unauthorised access.

Furniture Storage FAQs

The cost depends on the unit size, the location and the contract you choose. A 100 sq ft unit that suits a one-bedroom apartment costs less than a larger unit for a three or four-bedroom home, and longer contracts usually bring a better monthly rate. Contact our team with a list of your furniture and we will give you a clear quote.

A 150 sq ft unit suits a two-bedroom apartment or villa. It holds the furniture of a one-bedroom home plus appliances and outdoor furniture. A studio apartment fits in 75 sq ft, a three-bedroom home in 200 sq ft and a four-bedroom villa in 300 sq ft. Check our size guide above, or ask us to estimate from your inventory.
